Cansu Rossi

1991, Istanbul · Based in Italy.

I work mainly in oils, painting the things around me: food, flowers, interiors, and everyday objects.

I studied architecture and worked as an architect before painting gradually took over. Daily painting became the way I learned: working small and often gave me room to experiment, make mistakes, and understand what I actually wanted from a painting.

The artist

I paint what catches my eye.

My work has moved through illustration, realism, and abstraction before returning to still life. That detour helped me understand colour, loosen up, and come back to familiar subjects with a much clearer visual language.

I usually build a painting from shapes and values first. Once the structure feels right, colour and texture become much more instinctive. I like that balance between planning and letting the painting change as I work.

More than 800 of my paintings have found homes with collectors around the world.

The work

The everyday.

Coffee cups, fruit, flowers, tables, bottles, plates of food. I keep coming back to things we see all the time. They already carry memories and associations before I put them on a canvas.

I don't chase perfect realism. I look for the right shapes, colour relationships, and sense of presence. Some paintings are carefully planned, while others start because I suddenly want to paint a certain object or colour. Once the structure is there, I let the rest happen while I work.
